Questions
The things people ask first
My email is in a breach. Has somebody hacked me?
Usually not. It normally means a company you once had an account with was breached, often years ago. What matters is whether the password that leaked is still in use anywhere, and whether multi factor authentication is switched on. What to do about it, in more detail.
No breaches found. Does that mean I am safe?
It is a good sign rather than a guarantee. Have I Been Pwned only knows about breaches that have been made public, and it does not return breaches it treats as sensitive through this kind of check.
Do you keep the addresses people check?
No. The address is sent to Have I Been Pwned to look it up, the result is shown to you, and nothing is written to a database. The privacy notice has the detail.
Can we check every address at our business?
Yes, and that is more useful than checking one at a time, because you hear about the next breach as it happens. NordPass, the business password manager we supply, includes breach monitoring for company addresses. Talk to us about setting it up.
